I was on the phone with Frank earlier, and I told him the title of this blog entry and asked him to guess what I was writing about.  Being Frank, the first thing he did was give me some sarcastic, smartass reply.  Then, I told him this article was going to be about government spending.

You want to know why we have our gargantuan deficit (2.6 – 3 percent of our GDP)?  Because…

THE GOVERNMENT SPENDS MONEY LIKE A DRUNKEN GI IN A MANILA WHOREHOUSE!

Hence the title of this blog entry.  Need I really say more?

The real news in yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office semiannual
report is that federal expenditures on everything from roads to
homeland security to health care will on present trends reach 21.5% of
GDP next year. That’s a larger share of national output than at anytime
since 1992. If the cost of the federal takeover of Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac prove to be large and are taken into account, next year
federal outlays could be higher as a share of the economy than at
anytime since World War II. In this decade alone, federal spending has
increased by almost $1.2 trillion, or 57%.

No, it’s not the fault of the tax cuts.  According to the Congressional Budget Office, tax revenues have actually been on the rise until this year, when they’re going to experience a little slump. 

The War on Terror is not the problem either.  Sure, it’s expensive, but it’s national security, and it’s important, and frankly, spending 4.5 percent of GDP on defense is not exactly outrageous, especially compared to the more than 6 percent of GDP we were spending on defense during the Cold War.

So what’s the problem here?

Say it together with me, boys and girls!  THE GOVERNMENT IS SPENDING MONEY LIKE A DRUNKEN GI IN A MANILA WHOREHOUSE!

The fiscal blowouts have included a record farm bill, notwithstanding
record farm income; an aid bill for distressed homeowners, extended
unemployment benefits, and more generous veterans benefits. Next up:
votes on $50 billion for Detroit auto firms, an $80 billion energy
bill, as much as $50 billion for spending masked as a “second
stimulus,” plus $100 billion or more for the Fannie and Freddie rescue.
Rather than sort through priorities, Congress is spending more on just
about everything.

Just take a look at the chart!  Where has federal spending increased most dramatically?  Community development.  COMMUNITY FRIGGIN’ DEVELOPMENT!  Welfare garbage to rescue irresponsible corporations, funding tossed at multi-millionaires who just happen to own farm enterprises, bailouts for idiot homeowners who took on more of a mortgage burden than they could handle… but the Marxist nutbags bitch and moan about us spending a lousy 4.5 percent of our GDP on defense??

Get some goddamn perspective, people!

Your government spending is out of control.  It’s appropriating your earnings and redistributing them to those who haven’t earned it and have been too irresponsible or stupid to keep themselves from getting in financial trouble!  Tax relief is not the problem, and neither is the war.
