Um. Or not.
A new study finds no evidence that gun shows lead to substantial increases in either gun-related homicides or suicides.I don’t get it. Gun shows are evil. Anyone can walk in off the street, buy an Uzi and destroy lives, right? There’s a huge loophole, and we must close it for the children! Right, Senator McCain?
The University of Michigan and University of Maryland study also shows that tighter regulation of gun shows does not appear to reduce the number of firearms-related deaths.
Not so much. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, fewer than 2 percent of criminals obtain guns from flea markets or gun shows. And this recent study shows gun shows are not a threat.
Far cry from the usual pabulum spewed forth by Hemenway and crew at Harvard, who link the presence of guns to everything from suicides to genital herpes.
“The absence of gun show regulations does not increase the number of gun-related deaths as proponents of these regulations suggest,” said Jacob, director of its Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy (CLOSUP).
Paging Senator McCain! What excuse will you use next to relieve gun owners of property rights, eh?

It’s about perception and politics.PERCEPTION – Criminals can walk into a gun show and buy a machinegun to rob a bank without a background check or anything else.PERCEPTION – Anything that looks even vaguely like a military rifle is an “assault weapon” i.e. machinegun.PERCEPTION – Criminals routinely use machineguns in the commission of crimes. Watch any movie to see the truth of this.POLITICS – Elected officials feel the need to be seen as “tough on crime” and so crack down on what people PERCEIVE to be a threat.Meanwhile, actual criminals go in and out of the revolving door “justice” system because of cries of racism or “it’s not fair!” or opposition to the death penalty or simply because we haven’t got enough jail space with A/C, weight rooms, and big screen TV sets.

The “gunshow loophole” is pure bilge. Background checks are requiered at gunshows. The purveyors of this tripe rely on theAmerican public’s general ignorance ofexisting firearms regulation and procedures.
