This feline is nursing a tiny little chocolate lab puppy at the Humane Society shelter in Harrisburg. The cat doesn’t care that the puppy is not the same species. She doesn’t care that the pup isn’t hers. Baby bear (something I used to call the Redhead when he was a toddler) found a new mommy in this cat – this cat who couldn’t care less if the newcomer was a cat or a dog or a seal or a marmoset.
How many people do you know who would do that?

I am mom to two munchkins and two fat, attention-whoring cats. We live with my boyfriend Rob in Arlington, Virginia. We had a tiny hedgehog named Prickles, but he died. We are sad.

Cute, but I’m uneasy with the concept of ascribing nobility or virtue on animals. I prefer to think of them as amoral.If we deem them moral agents, we must recognize their vice as well as their virtue. What will we do with all the female mammals who shun their runts, as has been happening for eons?My moral view is not based on my religious beliefs, as I have none.

I wouldn’t say I consider animals moral, but certainly noble in some respects. It’s not a morality that you see here. It’s just a simple disregard for the fact that the little lab is of a different species. It’s an example for moral beings, to a degree, but not necessarily an effort to ascribe morality where there is none. It’s instinctive, and it’s sweet. I wouldn’t take it any further than that.

Ew no! LOL I started breastfeeding the Redhead when he was born, and I couldn’t stop fast enough! No one told me they can GNAW with their gums!
