I got an email from an old friend this morning. Thorsten is an international police officer (IPO) with whom I worked in Kosovo last year. He’s from Germany, but he’s actually Dutch. He speaks a number of languages, is one of those people who’s incredibly bright, but covers it up with goofy jokes. Hard worker, knowledgeable guy, and all around likeable person whom I’ll never forget. I really enjoyed working with him, and I’m glad we kept in touch. Here’s what he wrote:
“Liebe Nicki,The election went pretty much as I predicted. I wasn’t surprised or particularly upset by the results. I’ll admit I’ve been pretty incredulous throughout this entire election process. Only in America can we defeat communism during one century, and wind up with a choice of two socialists for president during the next! Only in America.
don’t worry about the result. you know that not that much will change. anyhow my congrats for your new president and always remember that it could be worse! give me a smile and i will give you a long hug from good old germany!“
Several things also struck me this morning as I was listening to the radio. One is the reaction of the Obama supporters to the victory. They didn’t care about the issues. They didn’t talk about the economy. They didn’t discuss national security, or how Obama would be good for our country. They gushed over his victory, as if Jesus himself was resurrected and touched them upon their sweaty, sloped brows. They embraced the aura of the Lightbringer, cried, swooned, fanned themselves in clammy adoration and jabbered about how great it is that we elected a black man to the highest office in the land.
Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki declared today a national holiday for Kenyans, because a black man was elected president.
Yes, this is a historic thing. And yes, I agree with this guy that we’ve come a long way since slavery and Jim Crow. But for me, this election was never about color. It was only about color when those surrounding the Messiah MADE it about color. And while I’m proud that America has come so far in a relatively short time, judging by the reactions of the drooling, weeping Lightbringees, we’re far from having put color behind us. Color apparently still matters to those of us who put race above substance and color above policy. I’m thrilled that America elected a black man to the White House. I think it shows that our national character has transcended racism. (Too bad it’s not a black man of any substance whatsoever.) And it’s too bad punks like Jeremiah Wright, Laura Washington and Charles Ogletree can’t overcome it in their own minds. Seems like the majority of Americans has, while they still look for KKK boogiemen under their beds.
Now, this is where I get heartless and pissed off. (WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE AHEAD!)
Meanwhile, the Republicans are crying in their oatmeal, hyperventilating, and wiping the snot from their tear-stained faces, while trying to figure out what went wrong? I’ll tell you what went wrong, you pusillanimous assbags! You have betrayed every ideal on which this nation was built. You’ve betrayed freedom, our Constitution, achievement and intestinal fortitude in favor of fear, statism and socialism. In your zeal to pander to everyone, you’ve alienated the people who work, achieve, succeed, and respect the fundamental ideals on which this country was built.
You have allowed the most corrupt, the most compromising and the most ignorant of you to continue dirtying the GOP. Hell, Ted Stevens is still winning in Alaska, even though he’s a convicted felon and fraud. Yeah, the Democrats are corrupt, but equivocation won’t work here. Their lack of ethics doesn’t make your lack of moral courage any more acceptable in my book.
You put forth a candidate who betrayed your most basic principles… a candidate who wanted to lick the ass of every illegal immigrant he encountered… a candidate who shredded the First Amendment and gave the inept, corrupt, power-hungry incumbency a leg up in Washington… a candidate who condemned socialism with his forked tongue, while at the same time claiming the trillion-dollar bailout was somehow “necessary” and who wanted to pay miserable failures, othewise known as Wall Street CEOs, $400,000 per year, while rescuing their corrupt operations with taxpayer dollars, instead of simply booting these creeps out for their fraud. You put forth a candidate who pissed off even the compromising NRA, who appeared in anti-freedom, anti-gun ads for an ardent gun banning group! You put the power and support of the GOP behind a candidate who promised to combat out of control government spending with more corporate giveaways – who wanted the government to rescue irresponsible dumbasses who got themselves into an impossible fiscal situation by directing the government to purchase mortgages directly from homeowners and mortgage servicers. What the hell did you expect? You put the full weight of the party behind this asshat, and you thought everyone would line up behind you just because you still claim to be Republicans?
You have betrayed simple principles that made this country great – nation, strength, unity, liberty and prosperity - with your retarded “compassionate conservatism,” which is nothing but code speak for socialism. I’m going to quote my brother Misha here, because he said it best:
You’ve betrayed those ideals, and you really expected us to do nothing? You really expected us to just roll over and capitulate to your fear-mongering, just because we were too scared of an Obama presidency? You think we’d give you our vote of confidence simply due to fear?
Nation: Because we ARE the last, best hope of mankind. If we allow that candle to be extinguished, then this world isn’t worth the dirt it is made of. We may not always be liked, but we’re always right. Our nation is the blood of our forefathers. It is our past, our present and our future. Without it, we have nothing. It is the bond that ties us together, it is what we are. It is the thread that connects us with our Founding Fathers without whom we wouldn’t even be what we are today. We owe all that we are and have to them, and future generations depend on us to keep that thread going. It is bigger than any one of us, bigger than all of us together, because that IS the United States of America.
Strength: Without that, a nation won’t be a nation for long. It will be somebody else’s nation. The world doesn’t give a shit about “goodness” or “kindness”, all they care about is “who’s on top?” If you have something that somebody else doesn’t have but wants, rest assured that he’ll try to take it from you. And the only way you can keep him from doing that is through strength. Nobody ever won anything through weakness.
Unity: This ties into “nation.” We are a common front. We are family. The rest of the world doesn’t give two shits about us. We may bicker among ourselves, as any family does, but we must present a united front to the rest of the world or we will. not. stand. The loony left have done their damndest to destroy that because they can’t succeed if it exists. They have divided us into arbitrary cliques and they continue to do so under the guise of “fairness” and “affirmative action”, just to name two.
We are Americans. Period. First and foremost. Whatever else we feel a need to identify with is fine, but being American is what we are, first and foremost. Any attempt to divide us into subgroups, any attempt to Balkanize us must be resisted, fought and denied with everything in us.
Liberty: “With liberty and justice for all.” That’s not just a catchy slogan. That is what we are. That is what was bought with the lifeblood of countless patriots. Liberty means that the role of government in our personal lives must be limited to the utmost and that any attempt to infringe upon it must be resisted by any means. It means smaller government, and it means strict and uncompromising adherence to our Constitution, which was set up specifically to limit what government could ever do. We have failed in fighting for this, and that is why we are where we are today. It’s time to turn the tide. Slaves don’t accomplish anything, free men and women do. Fight the tyrants and eliminate them if you must. The Founding Fathers would approve. They didn’t show up at Lexington Green because they were bored and had nothing better to do.
Prosperity: This means the right to keep what you earn. What you have earned through your own sweat belongs to nobody but you. You can share it if you WANT to, but NOBODY has the right to take it from you and spend it on whatever cause they believe best serve their own ambitions. There are causes on which we all agree, on which the security and safety of our nation rests, and those are all already outlined in the Constitution. There’s a reason for that. Our Founding Fathers actually thought long and hard about that before they wrote it down and signed it.
Anything other than that is theft, plain and simple, and it should be resisted in the same way that you would resist a burglar.
Because if a citizen no longer owns the fruit of his labors, he is no longer a citizen. He is a slave.
Please!
You don’t know us very well. We don’t tolerate betrayal, and we won’t be kind about it when our leaders, who claimed to treasure the same values, freedoms and ideals as we do, become nothing but vapid whores, in the pockets of those who can give them the most power.
So fuck you! We’ll come back when your empty words mean something.
Meanwhile enjoy the increased theft of your earnings. Enjoy the gradual erosion of your freedoms. Sit back and watch as the nation’s wealth is redistributed to the lazy, stupid, worthless, sit-on-your-ass-and-do-nothing, self-proclaimed victims. Watch as they spend your earnings and complain that they didn’t get enough of a helping hand in life. Enjoy the decimation of our national defense and the pandering to foreign dictators and those who wish us ill. You’ve earned it with every compromise of our ideals. You’ve ushered this in with every socialist, redistributionary policy. You engaged in fear mongering, instead of substantial policy discussion. You spewed vapid platitudes in a manipulative attempt to hide your disregard for the principles and ideals of this nation.
You’ve ushered this in with your morally bankrupt, business-as-usual actions in Washington, and now you get to suffer with the rest of us, you pernicious assholes.
But it’s not the end of the world. We got through a Carter and a Clinton presidency. We’ll get through this too. As long as there are people in this country who refuse to be enslaved, we’ll continue fighting to be free of government tyranny and oppression, this nation is not dead. I’m not worried about it. Never was.
And those of you who are currently simpering in a corner, wiping your noses with your sleeves, you can either give up, or you can examine your own role in the demise of the GOP and work to rebuild it. But as long as you keep reelecting the Ted Stevenses, don’t expect different results.
To quote Misha, thatisall.

I agree with your article. I also agree with your statements to the Republicans. They had a perfect opportunity and squandered it with corporate greed and mismanagement. I for one am already tired of the unrealistic comparisons to MLK. This guy can’t even tie MLK’s shoes! This Presidetial race was never about race for me. It was about Obamah’s policy goals and sophmoric blather in his book about what we need to do for the poor underpriviledged black families in the inner cities of this country. If allowed to implement those policies, we as a nation will rue the day we put this “assclown” in office.

Are you sure he’s not approaching the “Rock With Lips” category? King had the gift of oratory. Oblowme has the gift of good speechwriters. King worked to implement honest change to realistic problems. Oblowme and his supporters see the racist boogieman under every bed, regardless of whether or not it exists.Think the Russians can smell weakness in Washington? I do.How long do you think the Republicans will sit around sniveling and complaining? They won’t fix anything. Of course, on the bright side, when everything tanks the Democrats will have no one to blame but themselves.
Nov 05, 2008 @ 17:06:07
This election wasn’t one for Dems to win, but rather for the Reps to lose. And lose it they did. As much as I like to see the Republicans suffer a loss like this, I despise the fact that it’s the Democrats who are picking up all the gains. It’s enough to make one sick.
Nov 05, 2008 @ 17:15:09
Yeah I guess “rock with lips” is a more descriptive term. I find it interesting that when I talk to the folks I know..the only ones concerned about his race were those of the same race. No one else cared….I think the Republicans will snivel until balance in Congress is restored. I am hoping that during the next year they will realize how badly they “fucked it all up”. But I think they will bring out the hankies whenever they meet enough Democrat resistance to stop thier agenda. Truthfully, I am so tired of the partisan politics….our political system has gotten so far from where it needs to be…sometimes I think we should just throw em all out and start from scratch.
Nov 05, 2008 @ 17:19:50
Yes I think the Russians smell weakness in Washington. Some of that has always been the case immediately following a Presidential election. But I think in this case it is also that they are fully aware that we have an untried, unproven junior Senator in office. I have always said that the Russians are some of the best opporunists in the world. I worry a bit about the next four years. Although I did not care for his politics, Clinton proved to be pretty smart guy. He said that they had no idea what they were doing the first four years in the White House. That they were clueless to how the game was played at the national/international level. I am sure countries like Russia know this and are counting on it.
Nov 05, 2008 @ 17:21:18
I think you’re right that they’ll snivel every time they encounter liberal resistance to their plans. I don’t know why they would, though. They’ve out democrated the democrats… I’d love it if we all just tossed them all out and started from scratch. That would be a good revolution – and a good start.
Nov 05, 2008 @ 20:28:10
Well said, by all. Yea, the Republicans blew it big time, there was no possible way for them to pull this one out, and good thing, they got what they deserved. Of course, the Democrats are just as much to blame for the current situation as the Republicans, they just kept a lower profile. Unfortunately, too many see only two sides to the political process just as too many only see a persons race as a qualifier/disqualifier for president. At least it’s good to know there are still a few patriots out there with some fight in them. As for the Russians, it’s not them we should be worried about(the most). There are many groups out there who have been sitting back and waiting for their chance to strike. I’m sure they are all working over time now.

Agree with all above. Apparently, data support the idea that conservatives, sick of McCain, stayed home. I chose not to, but seriously considered it. My big choices? McCain, of course. Liddy Dole, who more-or-less parachuted into No. Carolina six years ago with a sunny, “Hey! I’m from here, so vote for me!” even though she hadn’t lived in the state in decades. Choice between the current Lt. Gov and the mayor of Charlotte. Whoopee. Here’s the thing, though: while I want the GOP to be what I want and expect – fiscally responsible, strong on defense, small government, ethical, leave me the hell alone – what if I can’t have all those things?Take the lesser of two evils, or refuse to participate?Tough call.

This election was more about race than anyone wants to admit. Race was the main factor in the black vote, period. But the black vote wouldn’t be enough to win an election by itself. It was also about race with the white voter. Yeah, that’s right! A great many people made an emotional choice to feel good about themselves and prove they were above such undesirable traits as voting a certain way because of race or ethnicity. The only way to feel good about one’s self under that criterion was to prove it by voting for the black guy, or partially black guy. Which, ironically, means their vote was based on race and the undesirable traits that exposes in the voter. In my own family, I was the only member who had any information about either candidate. I was the only member who knew how each had voted, what they had said, or knew anything about what each of them proposed.I tried to expose my family to the facts, not opinion, not campaign material, just the facts. None of them were interested. You see, their minds were already made up. They were afraid that any information might interfere with their determination to attain the emotional high of proving they weren’t racists. Which of course, is racist, since that was the sole reason for them voting the way they did.Remember, these people knew nothing about anyone’s record or policies or proposals for the future, their only impetus for their vote was “the good ole white boy club has had it long enough”, (direct quote from one of my daughters, one who couldn’t tell you the first thing about any of the candidates, except one was black).Today they are happy, Hell ecstatic, about a black man being the next president. Nothing else concerned or generated their happiness except he was black. I suspect a “See how wonderful we are?” motive behind it.I maintain this election was mostly about race. Just not in the usual way we think of racism as being destructive of the recipient of it.

Bravo, Baby. Agree with you 100%.As you know it does not happen often, butthis time you got right in to the point.Love you and see you on Thanksgiving.

Awww! Thanks, dad! It’s not that you don’t agree with me – you just don’t like to admit it when your kid is right! I love you too!All – meet my dad. As stubborn as me, but without the red hair!
