Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. says he is not a target of the investigation that led to this week’s arrest of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
A lawyer for Jackson acknowledged Wednesday that the Illinois Democrat
is the so-called Senate Candidate 5 in the federal complaint against
Blagojevich.Wiretapped conversations
indicated that Blagojevich felt the candidate would raise campaign
money for him in exchange for being appointed to the Senate seat
vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.Jackson
told reporters in Washington he spoke with the U.S. attorney’s office
Tuesday. He says he was told he is not a target of investigation and
isn’t accused of any misconduct.
He’s not the subject of investigation… yet.
