It’s a loss for every law-abiding citizen who wants to exercise his or her right to defend themselves and their loved ones across the nation.
U.S. Senate Democrats stood up to the powerful gun lobby on Wednesday
and rejected legislation to permit firearm owners to carry concealed
weapons across state lines.A majority of the 100-member Senate
voted in favor of the measure, but backers fell two short of the
required 60 votes agreed to by both parties for passage. While
the gun lobby won two legislative battles earlier this year in
Congress, it lost this one amid opposition by police, big city mayors
and victims groups who argued the change would boost crime, not reduce
it as backers contend.“This is a message to the NRA (National
Rifle Association) that its legislative agenda isn’t going to receive
carte blanche” now that Democrats control the White House and Congress,
said Anne Mathias of Concept Capital Washington Research Group, which
tracks Congress for investors.
Considering that the majority of Americans support the right to carry concealed, the libtards in the Senate have proven themselves once again to be not the representatives of the people, but ideologically corrupt, power-hungry imbeciles who would rather listen to the ramblings of the pathologically corrupt criminal Michael Bloomberg than the American people who put them in office.
These are the same vapid scum who get the very best perks and protection your tax dollars can buy, while they act to violate your rights. They are the same hypocrites who disarm you by using the authority YOU gave them.
And I once again point out that the traitorous piece of malodorous shit Arlen Specter voted with his new Democrat masters against the amendment.
And if the two foul, corrupt worthless pieces of RINO excrement Voinovich and Lugar removed their tongues from the rectums of gun banners long enough to vote ethically, the right of the people to carry their tools of self defense nationwide could have been restored.
This wasn’t a loss for the NRA. This was a loss for fundamental rights. It was a loss for morals and ethics. And it was a win for corrupt power.
I’m sure criminals around the country are breathing easier today.
Thanks, shitstains!

No matter what or how they vote in Washington it is up to the states to make the decision. Many states already honor other states Concealed Carry Permits. This is like motorcycle helmet laws.

The funny thing was that it only got voted down by 2 votes. We needed just 2 more measly votes to get it approved. I think that might say something positive about the makeup of the rest of congress regarding this issue and maybe next time it comes up, it will be a yes. Evidently, next time we just need to bury it all sneaky like in a sweeping credit card bill and then we will get OUR freedoms approved under the “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” policy that really does not exist.

What these folks didn’t say (becasue they are a bit too scared t admit it) is that this bill, S1618, was offered as an amendment to the broader defense bill. The true bill is S845, which is still alive and well. The agreement for the amendment to be added stated that it needed a supermajority. I’m assuming thats the only way it made it out of committee. The original bill ( S845 ) is still in committee, and is getting floor time next week. We now know we have the necessary 51 votes to pass it, with a 7 vote cushion. Whether this will have any bearing on it in committee is yet to be seen, but I view today as a *test vote*. We’ll see how many Senate Snakes flip and vote no when it comes up on its own. Those folk will have signed their own pink slip, in my opinion, if they change their vote when S845 comes to the floor. The voters won’t forget that.Of course, the Anointed One would veto, then we’re back to a repeat of today, unless the two yambag Republicans can be convinced to change their vote from Nay to Yea.

Laura, worse yet – two RINO votes – two RINOs that weren’t named Snowe and Collins, who for once didn’t vote with their patron saint of witlessness Specter.

I’ve bought two more guns since obama got selected….done my civic duty, you understand…….as long as I have at least half a dozen or so and two full ammo boxes, then I feel complete. Say at leat two shotguns, a rifle or two and three pistols for starters. Our Founding Fathers were very wise, knowing cretins like our present bunch may seek to seize absolute power, lacking even the guts to see themselves as they truly are, preferring to claim it’s for our own good. Instead they may ignite the second civil war.

Unfortunately, S845 will still require 60 votes, in order to get cloture, avoiding a filibuster by Chuck Schumer. But that’s only two more votes to get.It takes a 2/3 majority to override a presidential veto. That’s 67 votes.

Not as close as it seemed to 60 votes. For instance on of my Senators voted no until he saw the amendment had no chance to pass, then changed his vote to yes. Gutless and manipulative, but probably indicative of other Senators actions is looking like they support, but only if they know beforehand that the amendment will fail. I suspect there was a lot of that CYA going on. It was scripted. David Pryor was my senator who changed his vote after realizing he was safe from party retribution, while trying to fool the great unwashed back home.

It really makes me laugh that some people bleat and mewl about making things safer for Americans when, it seems to me, the best way to make Americans safer is to encourage them to protect themselves and not stand for criminal behavior when it comes knocking on their door.
