I used to have respect for the guy as an actor, but the ignorant spew that oozes forth from his maw is so darned insane, that I’ve lost the ability to separate the characters he plays from the actual real, live tool Danny Glover is in real life.
I do believe each side – both the right and the left – have their crosses to carry. The right’s hunk of wood is Pat Robertson. There’s even a Facebook page dedicated to telling Pat Robertson to STFU. I’m an ardent fan. Robertson is a certifiable loon – the type of jackass I like to call a frothing fundamentalist fruitcake. If you missed it, here’s the right’s own mentally defective kook claiming that the earthquake in Haiti is the result of the pact the Haitians made with the devil. Um. Yeah.
Not to be outdone by the frothing fucktards on the right, Danny Glover offers his own brand of lunacy in order to explain the reasons for this natural phenomenon.
What is it with Hollywood celebrities? Does fame really affect one’s mental capacity? Does the portion of the brain that is responsible for logic, rational thought and sanity just shrivel up and die? Someone out there with any amount of neurological or psychiatric training please help me out here!

OK, let me get this: According to the nutcases above the earthquake in Haiti was either caused by the wrath of God or global warming.May I offer a third possibility – an alien named Alf caused the earthquake after ingesting a large bowl of chili which produced a enough gas too…

“Does the portion of the brain that is responsible for logic, rational thought and sanity just shrivel up and die?”You’re presuming that they had that portion in the first place. If you’re familiar with the Myer’s-Briggs personality typing, one of the categories for typing is the Thinker/Feeler category. The farther you swing towards “thinker”, the more you use facts to form decisions. The father you go the other way, the more feelings play a role. The problem is that most Feelers can’t even really differentiate how they feel about a topic from facts about that topic. So you have at least half of the country that generally prefers to ignore facts and rational thought when forming opinions and making decisions.

Not to get all “churchy” on ya…But at least Pat Robertson is on sound theological ground, if not 100% accurate in his technicalities. See, according to Christendom, our choices are always between God (good) and Satan (evil). So if the Hatian slaves, way back in 1791 sacrificed a black pig to a voodoo minor god (and celebrate this “ceremony” to this day ..Bwa Kayiman)they sure as heck weren’t casting their lot with the “good” side. Ergo, it was a pact with the devil! Danny Glover is just a moron.

Except if they didn’t believe in Christianity, they certainly couldn’t have made a pact with any type of Christian idea of a devil. That’s what boggles my mind about a lot of Christians I meet. They tell me it’s either / or. They tell me that if I’m not with Christ, I’m with the devil. Well, it’s difficult to be “with’ anything in which I don’t even believe. It’s a matter of personal and religious beliefs. The envirowacko crap is just as much of a cult as anything else. To me, they’re both morons.

BUUUUTTT….The European slave-owners routinely forced their slaves to adopt the religion of the owner. Even in the 1700′s most Haitian slaves had at least passing knowledge of God and the Devil, and knew the difference between “good” voodoo spirits and “bad” voodoo spirits. So they were at least aware that they were flirting with Satan, by whichever name he was called.I hear what your saying about personal beliefs and “most” Christians. I’m not trying to convert you, just saying that on a theoligical basis, using accepted religious definitions and symbolism, Pat Robertson was correct in saying that the Bwa Kayiman “ceremony” would be considered “making a pact with the devil”.
