I had to wait and think a bit before deciding to blog about the death of John Murtha. It’s no secret I never liked the guy. I thought he was a swine, who maligned the Marine Corps and the heroes who served downrange. He was also a corruptocrat who never met a pork barrel project he didn’t like, especially when it brought other people’s money to blighted, useless areas he represented.
But I also have a little decency, and I’m sure his family deserves a bit more than a bunch of pundits rehashing just how morally and ethically corrupt their husband/father/grandfather was.
So I’m ambivalent…
My condolences go out to his family. Losing a loved one is difficult, and I hope they find some peace.
As to the event itself…
My friend Dave sent me the following quote, which is most appropriate to how I feel about Murtha’s death.
“I’ve
never killed a man, but I’ve read many an obituary with a great deal of
satisfaction.” — M. Twain
And that’s more respect than he ever showed the Haditha Marines.

So apparently there are such things as term limits…I give him credit for his service to his country, but his treasonous behavior in congress more than negated his military record. One last quote from Twain and then I am done.”It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare.”

I agree with Twain.

I’ll salute a man who has character, until he doesn’t.
