For those of you unaware, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was going on this week. For the first time, the annual conference included GOProud – a conservative gay organization – as one of its co-sponsors.
I say GOOD FOR THEM!
The principles of academic and financial freedom, personal responsibility and limited government are not and should not be limited to those who have relationships with members of the opposite sex.
I fully agree with the short speech Alexander McCobin of Students for Liberty gave here. If you care about freedom, then this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Not so according to one narrow-minded shitbag from California, of all places! Ryan Sorba, representing Young Americans For Freedom Wholesale Ignorance in California, was booed from the minute he stepped up to the podium. Why? Because he saw it fit to condemn CPAC for including gay conservatives in their ranks!
Sorba was rude, ignorant and immature. He called out members of the audience and finally was booed off the stage for his arrogance and insolence.
This ought to tell you a lot about the young conservatives today. As my friend Rachel Mills wrote on Facebook this morning, “I think conservatives, especially younger ones, are sick of being associated with hate and intolerance. And guess what? In politics, the bigger tent wins. I read that Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University stayed home out of protest simply because GOProud was going to be there – and still we had record attendance. I’m happy for the hateful to boycott. You’re not missed one bit.”
I agree with Rachel 100 percent!
I know I’m sick and tired of being associated with rancid assbags who are so shortsighted, that they exclude and vilify allies who hold the same principles as they do merely because they choose to fall in love with and spend their lives with someone of the same gender! Freedom applies to everyone and is critical to everyone – not just those of whose life choices you approve!
I’m glad that freedom of speech we all have exposed Sorba for what he really is, an ignorant jerk, who is hardly representative of conservatives around this nation! And I’m glad Falwell and his band of uber-fundamentalist fucktards boycotted CPAC.
Republicans don’t need them.

This attitude is one of the issues that made me leave the Republicans (and in fact conservatism, which I do not equate with liberty, at all) a long time ago.My criteria for human beings is their character: will they let me live my own life my own in peace. That means my guns are none of my business, nor is who I choose to copulate with or in what manner. Nor what I read, nor what church I attend – if any. That is what I, in turn, offer to others of my own species, even ones I disagree with or don’t like. But I have no use personally for racists, homophobes, or people trying to ram religion down my throat, force me to swear allegiance to their god, and so on. That is to say, I don’t care what they say or do on their own property and time, but I don’t want them in my home. That said, I don’t want to be too negative about progress made in this direction. Why anyone’s sex life should matter to anyone else is beyond me. I have tried to talk to conservatives about how contemptible they sound when they try to talk about being left alone, limited government, and so on, while obsessing on the sex lives of other people in the same sentence, but they look at me with this blank expression while clutching their bibles, bookmarked to Leviticus.Talking about free and being it, are two separate things. A lot of conservatives – not all of them, but many of them – do not understand this.

Preach it Sister! I’m just going to assume that the dipshit doesn’t read hillbuzz.org. Gay guys getting it right. I’m as heterosexual as a human can be, but because I like vagina instead of penis does NOT give me the right to deny another their constitutional rights. Period.

I guess that Sorba guy has a problem with some people pursuing their own happiness when it comes to sentimental and sexual relationships.Since he seems to approve of government telling people who they can or cannot engage in a relationship with, maybe he would like to visit Iran sometime…I hear they execute homosexuals over there.

I live in an amazing country where I’m free to be a super-conservative Southern Baptist. I can believe whatever I want about homosexuality – and people who disagree with me are free to live their lives and have their rights, too.My home and church life don’t supersede other peoples’ rights and I for one am glad that GOProud was able to attend CPAC. Conservative values aren’t about sexual orientation – they’re about freedom.

Thank you, Sarah. Thank you for perfectly telling it like it is.

I like the “you’ve made an enemy of me” bit. Coming from him, that’s a compliment. You can always judge the quality of a man by his enemies.

Ooh-Rah to that!

It may be a “false flag” operation. He may not be a conservative at all, just playing one so he can make the real conservatives look narrow and petty.
Feb 23, 2010 @ 17:09:22
He’s chairman of the YAF in California. I doubt it. There are plenty of conservatives in the GOP who are real assholes.

Ryan Sorba is a total ass. And an idiot. Freedom is for everyone. He should understand we have to defend the freedom of EVERYONE even if we don’t like their personal choices. Their sexual orientation is their own business. The ONLY reason to say ANYTHING about sex, at all, is if it’s being practiced in public, and then I don’t care if you’re homo or hetero, banging in public should get you arrested.
