Despite what Sarah Brady, Paul Helmke and VPC’s Josh Sugarmann will have you believe, John Lott‘s theory of “More Guns, Less Crime” has been justified.  America now has record numbers of law-abiding, responsible citizens licensed to carry concealed weapons, and firearms deaths in America have fallen.

From its beginnings in the 1980s, the “right-to-carry” movement has succeeded in boosting the number of licensed concealed-gun carriers from fewer than 1 million to a record 6 million today, according to estimates from gun-rights groups that are supported by msnbc.com’s research. And while hotly debated, the effect of this dramatic increase is largely unknown.

Well, according to Gun Facts, the majority of American states are now “right to carry” states.  There’s been no blood running in the streets, and no massacres by law-abiding citizens exercising their rights.  Crime has not increased in those states, and in many cases, it has actually declined.  I’m always loath (unlike the Hemenway/Miller misanthropic manpigs at Harvard) to draw causation from correlation, but even a blind man can certainly understand that if crime has not increased, and even decreased in many “right to carry” states, that law-abiding gun owners are not the problem!

Gun enthusiasts claim a link between more private citizens carrying concealed weapons and the nation’s dramatic decrease in violent crime. Gun-control activists argue that concealed-carry permits are being handed out to people who should never get them, sometimes resulting in tragic, needless shootings.

Does it happen?  Probably.  Is it statistically relevant?  Not so much.  Crimes involving concealed carry permit holders are statistically insignificant.  Most of the time, it’s the *gasp* CRIMINALS committing crimes! And guess what – criminals will likely not bother getting a permit to carry concealed!

And the facts cannot be disputed.

Statistics from the national Centers for Disease Control do indicate that the murder and mayhem predicted by many opponents of concealed-carry laws have not come to pass.

Wait!  I must sit down… or faint… or fan myself!  This is MSNBC reporting, right?  Let me check… hmmmm…  yep!  MSNBC is actually reporting that the hysterical fearmongering by the Million Moron Mommy March and the Brady Center was just that – political histrionics.

More Americans than ever are carrying guns, and they’re saving lives when police can’t be there to protect them.

Of course, this won’t stop Kristen Rand and other petty cowards from disseminating lies.

Kristen Rand, legislative director for the Violence Policy Center, a gun-control group, said the movement “has to do with selling more guns.” While it was pushed by groups like the NRA, it also “dovetailed with the gun industry’s desperate need to find a new market.”

“Their efforts at reaching out to minorities and women have failed,” said Rand, whose group advocates banning all handguns and some rifles but believes sporting rifles and shotguns should remain legal. “The industry constantly has to look for a way to make a guy who already owns 15 guns buy a new one.”

Really, Kristen?  How about you have a cup of shut the fuck up?

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, 70-percent of retailers saw an increase in female customers in 2009. Fresno gun store owners Bill and Sharon Mayfield are among them. Sharon says a lot of her female customers say they’re afraid for their safety.

“In the last three to five years we’ve probably tripled our women’s sales; our females,” said gun store owner Sharon Mayfield with Mayfield Guns.

Of course, again, Rand ignores reality in favor of her feelings. It doesn’t matter that firearms murders in this nation are on the decline. It doesn’t matter that the bloodshed she and Helmke have been predicting hasn’t materialized, even as more and more people carry guns.  It doesn’t matter that their prognostications of doom have no basis in reality.  She FEELS that guns are doing harm, and therefore they MUST be!

Rand, the spokeswoman for the Violence Policy Center, acknowledged that “we don’t have centralized data-gathering to know what people are doing with these licenses.”

“(But) anecdotally, we know they’re doing quite a bit of harm,” she said.

Well, gosh, Kristen!  Anecdotally, I know that you went out last night broke into the DC Zoo and ass raped a rhesus monkey with a 12 inch purple vibrator!  My cousin told me.  It MUST be true, right?  Because I don’t need statistics or facts to accuse you of bestiality.

So, because they couldn’t find any actual statistics to support their hysterical fears, Rand and her band of gun banning idiots have started documenting every instance of a concealed carry permit holder committing a crime.


Her group posts news accounts of concealed-weapons permit holders allegedly involved in firearms deaths on a part of its Web site called “Concealed Carry Killers.” The site says 130 civilians and nine police officers have been killed and 13 mass shootings have been carried out by people with concealed-weapons permits since May 2007. Helmke, of the Brady Campaign, cited the work of Rand’s group in a recent blog post that mocked the NRA for saying concealed weapons permit holders “are all ‘law-abiding’ citizens.’”

Hmmmmm….  and how many concealed carry permit holders are there since May 2007? According to this story, 6,000,000.  So out of  6 MILLION concealed carry permit holders 13 committed “mass shootings.”  Wow.  That’s, like, uh… WAAAAAAY less than 1 percent!  And 151 people were supposedly killed by concealed carry permit holders since 2007. 

Can I ask a question?  How many were killed by common criminals who DIDN’T have a permit?

Do you really want an answer to that question, Kristen?

And how many were actually SAVED in justified shootings?  There were about eight reported (merely reported to the media!) in the past three days on KeepAndBearArms.com!

Maybe it’s time the gun banners faced reality and backed off… but somehow I just don’t think that’s going to happen.  Reality will continue to bitchslap Rand, Helmke and other petty tyrants in the face, and they’ll continue to ignore reality.
