Isn’t that the way all good Redneck tales start?
There we were, non-ecologically friendly SUV loaded with guns and ammo, small-ish Redhead in the backseat all ready to blast some targets with a politically incorrect 9mm Glock, and me and my friend Anna in the front, driving to the range without even giving a thought to what a bad mom I am, putting a dangerous killing machine in my 14 year old boy’s hands!
A few weeks ago, I got an email from Sam with Ammo.net. Sam offered me some free ammo in exchange for a review on this site. The cool thing about this company is not just that they sell inexpensive ammunition and ship it super quickly, but also that they donate a portion of every ammunition order to their customer’s chosen pro-freedom organization! The donation is contributed on the customer’s behalf with no additional cost to the purchaser! How’s THAT for cool!
These guys are great! Here are the organizations they’ve supported so far:
I haven’t been to the range since I tore more than half my labrum in my right shoulder, and my arm most days feels like cooked spaghetti when I try to lift it. But I figured it was time to get out there and give it a workout.
Given the subject matter and the cause, I told Sam I’d do better than just a single. I’d take two other people shooting, and we’d all contribute to the review, so he’d have three different points of view! The ammo arrived four days after I confirmed to Sam in writing that I am over 21 years of age and am legally allowed to own it! Talk about quick and easy!
Originally, our friend Marie was going to accompany Anna and me to the range. We were also going to take our boys. Unfortunately, Marie couldn’t make it, so the Redhead graciously agreed to step in and contribute to this article. (And by “graciously,” I mean, he looked at the boxes of ammo that arrived in the mail and demanded to know whether one of those boxes was for him, so he could shoot his Glock.)
Yes, hoplophobes! My son has his own Glock. I keep it in my gun safe, and I will confidently turn it over to him when he is legally of age.
Go ahead. Gasp in indignant disbelief! Done? Good.
So, Sam sent me a box of .40 caliber ammo for my Glock 23, a box of .38 specials for Anna’s rifle, and a box of 9mm rounds, which were supposed to have been for Marie’s H&K. The Redhead happily took over that box and proceeded to empty the thing (plus two more we purchased at the range) into a series of paper targets.

Check out the stuff!
The good news is we didn’t have a single feed failure with the ammo Sam sent us, as opposed to the couple of boxes of various ball ammo we purchased at the range!
The Redhead loved it! He hadn’t been to the range in a couple of years – mostly due to time constraints and my non-operational arm. He confidently picked up the Glock, and it was like he’d been shooting it all his life! He said it was smoother than he remembered, and he found it easy to shoot.

Anna tried out my Glock first – a .40 caliber G23, and quickly exploded into “SMOOTH!” as she went through the first magazine. Ultimately, though, Anna loves her rifle, which she loaded with the .38 special ammo .

By the way, note the very cool holster made for me by Dennis of Dragon Leatherworks! I love Dennis, and I love the work he does, so check him out as well!
The ammunition Sam sent was top notch. I didn’t have a single misfire or jam, and neither did Anna’s rifle.
If you’re wondering how I did on my first outing since the injury… well… I sucked. I hit my target well enough, and had it been a human, it would have been more than deceased, but my shot groups were a disaster, and you could tell my weak arm caused me to drop my muzzle, causing lots of rounds to go low and to the right. I wasn’t surprised. I also wasn’t surprised by the vast amount of pain in my shoulder that night or the vast amount of Ibuprofen that accompanied said pain.
It’s all good. I knew it was going to be rough the first time out, and I know the more I use it, the better and stronger my arm will become. Modified push-ups, here I come!!!
So here’s what I will tell you.
Go shoot.
Go shoot a lot, and make it an outing with friends, kids, etc.
And when you do go, check out Ammo.net – not just because they ship quickly and will donate to your favorite pro-liberty charity when you purchase from them – but because they have a great selection of 9mm, .40 caliber, .38 special and any other type of round you can imagine.
And because we should always support our allies – folks who do honest business and who support liberty – in any way we can!
Thanks, Sam!
