This is one of the worst fake Soldier stories I’ve ever seen. Apparently Tim Poe, who made his way onto America’s Got Talent with a sob story about surviving a grenade attack in Afghanistan, is a fraud.
A sick, disgusting piece of rancid dickdripping fraud.

Sgt. Timothy Michael Poe served in the Minnesota Army National Guard from Dec. 3, 2002 until May 26, 2011, and performed as a supply specialist.
His military records indicate that he served with the Minnesota National Guard in Kosovo from Oct. 10, 2007 until July 15, 2008, and was deployed to Afghanistan from July 28, 2009 to Aug. 30, 2009.
Sgt. Poe’s official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports. The Minnesota National Guard can also confirm that he was not awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds sustained in combat.

This guy is a scam artist. He has slapped every honorable service member who got injured downrange in the face!
And it appears from the public affairs release that his unit was one of the National Guard units that replaced us in Kosovo. Lovely.
I guess it’s not enough that he served his nation and deployed. He has to lie just to get himself some publicity. He played the “Disabled Vet” card just to get himself on the show. He was never wounded. He never cleared buildings, and those who know him say he apparently doesn’t have a stutter.

UPDATE ZEE FIRST: Looks like America’s Got Talent got wind of this fraud, and has published several comments from Soldiers in his unit, who confirm this tool is a fraud.

The producers at AGT are too blame as much as Poe’s. They do the background checks of contestants they focus on to create drama & increase viewership of the show which makes for better ratings. Simon Cowell, and his company Syco Entertainment, produces AGT and X-Factor.
Last year, there was alot of fuss about their airing of a contrived bio on contestant Stacy Francis and many things X-Factor reported proved to be untrue. Simon Cowell’s response, “I don’t care.” I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if AGT created this charade, and Tim Poe simply went along with it because it provided him some celebrity & an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas.

Honestly, this kind of thing infuriates me. I got caught by a rocket attack in Iraq…never was in serious danger, but according to “the rules,” I could get a Combat Action Badge (CAB). I could not in good conscience pin that on my uniform, knowing that others were shot at, hit by mortar fragments, and splattered with their buddys’ guts wearing the same pin.
Any Soldier who pads their record is disloyal, unethical, and sick.
Hence, they are not suitable to wear the uniform…and should be escorted to the front gate in their underwear and shower shoes.

Tincan I was a Fobbit as well in Afghanistan. I didn’t start out as a Fobbit but rather I actually did do my 11B job of patrols and security. I became the S-3 NCOIC after some of our soldiers left for the first round of R & R. It wasn’t a job I wanted but I did it and did it well. I, like you, supported my guys in the best way I possibly could. I did what was necessary to get them what they needed when they needed it. I don’t regret being a Fobbit either Tincan. I can hold my head up proudly and say what I did unlike Mr Poe.

I am a disabled veteran and since I saw this, I am disguised by the stupidity of a former military member that tries to get sympathy from others. These type of military members should be ashamed of themselves in portraying in being a hero or a victim in war. Sgt. Poe needs to re-learn to be honest. As an Air Force member, we hold excellence in all we do, honesty and integrity and I know the Army holds even higher standards…in all, I hope this Sgt Poe wakes up and becomes honest or there will be many armed force members on their hate list.

I was medically retired from the army in January 2011 and I spent approx 6 months in the Wounded Warrior BN at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. There, I witnessed some of THE GREATEST HEROS EVER: young men & women with thier limbs missing, burn victims & many other horrific injuries sustained while serving their country… If he is a fraud, he has not only brought dishonor upon himself and the military but he has attempted to steal something that wasn’t his to have… The compassion, sympathy, empathy, respect & thanks is due to the ones who have made the TRUE sacrafices, but then again, almost all of these kinds of Soldiers would humbly tell you they don’t deserve all of that because they were just doing their jobs….

This is the real America, kids – where a lot of people will do virtually anything for a buck. I have an ex-wife whose husband exaggerated his military career in Viet Nam and, also, told people he was dying of cancer when he wasn’t sick – his friends held a fund-raiser (he had an illness, alright – he was allergic to work). I would like to know who’s the moron who dusted him for an ear ache, hell I used to have to dope up my patient once in a while just to do the exam, then I’d keep them high for about two days, by then the antibiotics would be kicking in, course they would be put on quarters for 72hrs and f/u in 10 days. Pertaining to the back, that’s a little bit more different, if the doc did his job and homework, he should have given him a placebo. I only did a couple of dustoffs during my time, mainly because either the other IDMT or Dr. screwed up and put the patient in a worse situation. What a pussy doc and patient. I did my time, my troops did their time. It sucked, but we signed on the dotted line, knowing they can only kill us once, and really the idea is to kill the other guy for his country(Patton I think). If you were never in service you won’t understand and that’s OK. I, for one, don’t want civilians to understand because, if they did, it’d mean that they’d been in the same situations and that I’d failed to protect them.
Trust me in this though – You DON’T want us not to keep honor and duty in the forefront of our minds all the time and you DON’T want us not to police our own. One: Minnesota needs to look at thier recors again, the 34th ID was in Iraq 2006-2007, not Kosovo. I know this cause i was deployed with 2-147th AVN which is from Minnesota, in 2007-2008. Two: Records can be lost! just had a soldier get him purple heart from 2009, from wound in Iraq in 2009.

This is probably gonna piss a few people off, here, but – as I’d mentioned in an earlier post – I don’t watch hardly any TV and I’d never seen this “performance”. I was telling my wife about this crazy bastard, and, I finally brought myself to watch this bit of pop culture history on YouTube. First of all, the guy doesn’t even sing extraordinarily well. I was a professional musician for most of my life, working in Las Vegas, Nashville, and everywhere else. There are karaoke singers in every city and town, from sea to shining sea, who sing better than this whack job. He’s okay, and that’s about it (that’s why I don’t watch this kinda shit on TV). BUT: this cat is such a totally insane, shameless liar that as I watched this video I found myself laughing so hard that I almost started crying. I’m sorry, but to think that someone would even attempt to promulgate these kinds of lies on such a grand scale, in such a public way – I mean, this guy is totally friggin’ crazy. Even the stutter appeared transparently contrived. My anger has given way to something else….sympathy, to a certain extent. Anyone who can lie in this way can never have a life that contains an iota of meaning. This sort of thing is a form of psychopathology. He’s nuts, kids. And he’s already condemned. He’s condemned to be Timothy Poe for the rest of his days, separated from a life with any real meaning by his addiction to lying. You could shoot him but the bullet would pass through him like a slug slicing through a moonbeam – because he’s completely empty. My recommendation: turn off your TVs and go concentrate on something meaningful.

Speaking for myself, I’m short on sympathy. I have friends who have served, who have been injured and who died downrange. Some worked in an infantry capacity, and some did not. Not one of us tried to claim an honor, such as a CIB or a Bronze Star, because we felt inadequate, as Poe did. And worse yet, he used these lies for personal advancement!
While I agree with you that he may not be a stable personality, he’s more than capable of admissions of guilt. After all, he did grudgingly admit that he embellished and exaggerated! Not like he doesn’t know the difference! And yet, he continues to assert his truthfulness in public!
I’m sorry, but he’s disgusting. It’s not that he doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong. It’s that he doesn’t seem to care.

I honestly can say that while watching his audition on t.v. the night it aired I felt “uncomfortable” with this guy the moment he opened his mouth. I hate akward situations and usually remove myself from them if they arise. And I did leave my living room when he was about 45 seconds into his speech because i just felt….I don’t know…..I guess I felt that he was lying from the word go. I did come back in once he started singing and was shocked at how well he could really sing but still in the back of my mind I knew there was something “OFF” with this guy!! I tried to show some people that i work with his audition video but everytime it comes on I have to leave the room…..WEIRD…I know!! Point of the story…..I think i have some sort of knack for detecting a liar as soon as they open their mouth!! My kids better watch out when they start growing up

I’ve pretty much come 360 degrees on this thing. I’ve got a four year degree in psychology, done a couple of internships in mental health facilities, and just lived a lot of life. Oh, yeah – I watched this… Well, I watched the first eight minutes, or something, and could go no further. I actually have some limited training in psychology – just a B.S. in an undergraduate clinical program, from the University of Michigan (graduated in my old age with a 3.91). I did some internships at a couple of mental health facilities and worked in two group homes – that’s it. What that means is that I am NOT a psychologist. No one can diagnose this character without some testing. But it’s my instinct, only (based upon being around nutty people, and, people who fabricate stories), that this guy is NOT delusional. In my opinion, he CAN remember. He may be a sociopath and/or a narcissistic personality, of some kind – this kind of lying is really consistent with some form of sociopathy. I really think that he’s a sociopath who managed to tell this horse manure, and, reap all kinds of secondary rewards as a consequence (sympathy, free beer – you name it). What was reinforced to the guy was, “Wow – I’m great at this – I can run this scam on anybody and get shit…!” Of course, “boraxing” his air-headed gal friend and his neighbors at the trailer park wasn’t very hard. And it’s easy for him to, now, appear confused – but what the stupid shit is really confused about is the fact that, in front of a national TV audience, this shit didn’t work! When he was busted, so quickly and so completely, I’m sure he was shocked.
There’s a qualitative difference in this guy’s “deal” and someone who’s genuinely confused about reality due to a traumatic brain injury or a major personality disorder (eg. schizophrenia). This guy is more on the order of Scott Peterson (who called a cosmetologist – Amber Frye – from down the road and convinced her he was in Paris). When that stuff worked, for Peterson, he became convinced that he was so good at this kinda shit no one would ever consider that he was a killer. WRONG! And that’s what’s happening, here, I think….
I just retired and, right before retirement, I worked with a guy who told me that he’d been injured in the Marines, doing a “night drop” (parachuting into water, at night – as part of a special forces unit). He said that he was forced out of the USMC because his leg had been shattered in the incident. He eventually told me that he’d won 2 Purple Hearts and had saved members of his “team” on a covert mission in Somalia. Eventually, he told me that he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in a secret ceremony held in The Rose Garden and conducted by George Bush. And that’s when I blew my friggin’ lid and told him that he should stop. The guy was NEVER in the military, per his mother. The guy’s not crazy – but that horse shit had gotten him laid in some bars – just like Poe, he thought anyone would buy it… This kinda stuff is so shameful……Lord help us all.

I’ll tell ya’.. A long time ago I did a portion of a web site for some good friends of mine who lost a family member in Iraq. The web site is pretty bad, but that’s not the point. They’re nice people – but Tim Poe better thank his lucky stars that he’ll never be in the same room as any of Andy Yost’s family. If he were, he’d be lucky to come out with just a bullet in the leg, or whatever…
