A few days ago we learned that the Journal News of West Nyack, N.Y. published names and addresses of lawful citizens who chose to exercise their Second Amendment rights, along with an interactive map, showing every thug, thief, rapist and stalker where to find them. The bastards defended this as “journalism” that reported “publicly available information on timely issues.”

While information on gun owners is available under the Freedom of Information Act, what this piece of shit rag did is consolidate it into one neat little package with an interactive map, saving criminals and stalkers from having to go through the trouble.

Gun owners and Second Amendment supporters reacted with understandable rage, and some retaliated by posting publicly available information about the paper’s “leadership,” as well as the hypocritical scumbag reporter, who apparently is a gun owner himself and the repugnant publisher who justified this vicious targeting of law-abiding citizens as somehow responsible journalism.

Well, apparently that just wasn’t enough for these twisted tools. They announced a few days later that they would do it again.

 Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

The next batch of names will be permit holders in suburban Putnam County, New York, where the county clerk told the newspaper it is still compiling information.

The outrage continues, and unbelievably – the same paper that demonized gun owners by providing “useful information” about them, as if their neighbors need to be afraid of them – has now hired armed – ARMED security to protect their worthless hides.

How’s THAT for hypocrisy?

Apparently it’s OK to demonize gun owners – publish their names and locations – as if they’re people to be feared and avoided, but when it comes to protecting their own rotten carcasses, there’s no better way to do so than with armed men!

OK…

If they think it’s OK to publish information about innocent gun owners who had nothing to do with the massacre at Sandy Hook, I wonder if they think it’s OK to publish readily available information about innocent journalists and employees of this rag who had nothing to do with publishing the names of gun owners?

ANOTHER UPDATE:  Apparently the battle for privacy has just escalated, according to the Legal Insurrection blog.
…a group of self-described ”2nd Amendment supporters” claims it has downloaded and posted on the web what it describes as the “user” database of the Journal News.Twitter users claim the list is being widely circulated.  Although the links are easily available, I’m not including links to any of the websites containing the alleged database for the same reason I did not provide the personal information sent to me about Gannett’s Chairwoman.

Apparently plans for further publication of gun owners’ private information is in jeopardy as well, because a neighboring county announced it was denying the Journal News access to its gun permit database.
Putnam County Clerk Dennis Sant said he would defy a request for information about pistol permit holders from the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, which has come under criticism for publishing thousands of such identities already.“There is the rule of law, and there is right and wrong and the Journal News is clearly wrong,” Sant said in a statement. “I could not live with myself if one Putnam pistol permit holder was put in harm’s way, for the sole purpose of selling newspapers.”
