Anyone who has read this blog for any length of time knows I’m not a religious person. I have my own spiritual beliefs and ideas, and I generally don’t share them here. My spirituality, or lack thereof, is no one’s business but my own.

I also have a visceral reaction to people who like to impose their own religious convictions on others – whether it be by government force (listen up, Frothy™) or just by being irritating suckwads, like the tools who decided to “share their love for all things God” with their waiter in lieu of a tip.

Those of you who have debated me on the issue will be glad to know I find the atheists who are intent on destroying others’ faith because they’re somehow offended by public displays of religion just as noxious.

Case in point: Michael Newdow, who has this pathological compulsion to rid this nation, its buildings, its money and its schools with anything associated with a God.  This attention-whoring douche was apparently not satisfied with his kid and any other non-believer to be allowed to simply stand silently during the Pledge of Allegiance in school. He had to rid the school of it completely, because it contains a reference to God. To compound his absurdity, he compared “In God We Trust” on US currency with racial segregation (specifically separate drinking fountains).  To even further the asshattery, on December 31, 2008, Newdow and 17 other people, as well as 10 groups representing atheists, sued Chief Justice John G. Roberts and others involved in the inauguration of Barack Obama in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking to prevent the Chief Justice from saying “so help me God,” because apparently the Constitution specifically does not mention these four words.

Never mind that the President, should he be a religious person, may want to utter those words as an expression of his personal beliefs. Apparently uttering the very word “God” makes these atheists break out in oozing hives.  And as long as they have this irrational fear of the mere mention of a deity, no one should be allowed to even utter the word!

Second case in point: the dildoes who perpetually castigate Tim Tebow for his overt show of religious faith.

American Atheists — a New Jersey based group that promotes the separation of church and state — tells CBS Denver that the only reason Tebow is popular is because he constantly injects his Christianity among the public.

“When we watch a sporting event, we are all united for our team,” says David Silverman, president of American Atheists. “Tebow takes religion and injects it into the mix and divides the fan base.”

Silverman states that Tebow’s repeated references to God into his post-game comments after a win is “bad for football.

“(Religion) injects the divisive force into football,” Silverman says. “Why in the world are we talking about religion when we are talking about football?”

As a person of no religious affiliation or belief whatsoever, I have to call a foul on this one.

First of all, why does a group that promotes the separation of church and state… CHURCH AND STATE… feel the need to chime in on a private citizen’s public adoration for his God? Has the NFL somehow become an arm of the federal government that encourages Americans to accept Jesus?

And why is Tebow’s religiosity somehow bad for football? The guy is religious. He wants to thank the Sky Elf of his choice for helping him in the game. WHAT THE BLEEDING, HONKING, PASTEL-COVERED HELL IS DAVID SILVERMAN’S PROBLEM WITH IT????????????

It’s not like he’s pulling out a prayer rug and worshiping Allah in the end zone, thereby holding up the game. It’s not like he’s strapping a suicide belt onto himself and blowing himself up in the middle of the game. It’s not like he’s forcing anyone to pray along with him!

Why is overt display of one’s religious belief so offensive to some atheists? It’s so downright abhorrent to them, that they have to question Tebow’s very sincerity, claiming that he waits for the cameras before dropping on one knee to show his faith. Ummm…. fucknozzles – he’s the quarterback. The cameras will be on him if he makes a play. Reach much?

Personally, I don’t care what Tebow does in the endzone. Taking a knee and quietly thanking the deity of his choice is much less offensive than the crap some other players pull, such as humping the ground or jumping around like chimps on steroids. The kid is a decent football player, he worked hard to get where he is, and he feels the need to thank God for helping him.

Part of what makes this country great is our freedom to worship (or not) the way we please, as long as we don’t infringe on the rights of others to do the same. It doesn’t mean that we have the right to shut down another person’s ability to say a prayer, or thank God – whether it’s in the privacy of his own home, or in the endzone.

There is no right to watch a football game unencumbered by religion in the Constitution. So if Silverman and his fellow asshats have an issue with Tebow’s religiosity, they’re free to turn off their goddamn TVs and not buy any tickets to Broncos games.

I just wish idiot media outlets wouldn’t give them a microphone to spew their ignorance.
