Why Do Democrats Hate Poor People?

You often hear this meme that Democrats are kinder to the poor, that they care more about the poor, that they work to implement policies that help the poor…

After all, you never hear about how politicians want to protect the rich. Instead, it’s all about helping poor people, raising them up… blah, blah, blah.

So it makes me wonder how they can claim to care for and love the poor, and then make it prohibitively costly for them to defend themselves.

Take, for example, the latest proposal from the Demtard of Illinois Luis Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is quick to note that lower-profile shootings claim many more lives each year than the mass killings that generate broad media attention, and that handguns — not assault rifles — are most often used in those murders. In 2011, for instance, 97 percent of Chicago’s 362 gun murders involved handguns. Not one of them spurred a congressional hearing.

Under current federal law, foreign-made handguns that fail to meet certain safety criteria outlined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are not allowed into the United States. In determining whether a handgun is legal for import, the ATF weighs features like firing-pin locks, loaded-chamber indicators, the quality of grip and what type of metal was used in construction.

But the same standards to do not apply to handguns produced domestically. In fact, the Consumer Product Safety Act explicitly exempts firearms and ammunition from its consumer-safety rules.

What are they really after? They’re out to make handguns impossible for poor people to afford by making them conform to more expensive, more extensive standards. In fact, what they’re doing is using the Consumer Product Safety Act to ban a certain type of firearm that may be more affordable for people on tight budgets… for people living in neighborhoods that aren’t particularly safe… for the poor.

This is not the first time Democrats have tried to make firearms unaffordable for the poor they claim to love and care about. Maryland is imposing all sorts of fees on people wishing to exercise their Second Amendment rights in their state. A fee of $20 or $25 may not seem like a lot, but after spending several hundred dollars on a firearm, a training requirement and a renewal fee, it could prevent some from making that purchase, choosing instead to buy… oh, I don’t know… FOOD for their family with that money!

Will that serve to reduce gun ownership? You bet it will. For the people who need it most.

Onerous licensing fees and favoritism toward the wealthy and powerful who want to keep and bear arms are nothing new. It reduces the ability of regular folks and low income persons to defend themselves from violence and makes them more dependent on the State to protect them. This is what Democrats want. That’s what they’ve always wanted – a more powerful government.

If passed, this latest travesty will not only make firearms more cost prohibitive for lower income Americans, but it will increase black market activity and make criminals out of folks who simply want a fighting chance against armed thugs in their midst.

So why do Democrats want to make criminals out of poor people? Why do they hate the lower-income Americans?

You tell me!

Exactly

Want to know why this country is going to hell in a hand basket?

I’ll tell you why. Because the current horde of morally corrupt, entitled bags of vinegar and water occupying your Congress that calls itself Republicans needs to be fed into a wood chipper. Feet first, so it hurts and so it takes longer.

But since there aren’t enough wood chippers, I’ll settle for concentrated efforts to destroy the careers of every last one of them. Primary them. Make them unemployed. Send them back under whatever rock they vacated.

A while ago, I bid a final goodbye to the GOP. I did so after the shenanigans they pulled at the convention.

First, they voted to amend the party rules to allow future presidential candidates to have veto power over who can be delegates from any state. Not the people. The people can’t possibly be trusted to elect delegates to the convention! No, presidential candidates – the ones running to gain power – the ones with the money and the clout – NOT the people – will choose delegates. And you can be sure that the snotty upstart supporters of Ron Paul, those crotchety TEA Partiers and other grassroots conservatives who want to limit the power and scope of government aren’t going to be invited!

Then, after the grassroots revolted, they reached a “deal” under which delegates who are bound to a presidential candidate that hasn’t bowed out of the race or released them to vote for another contender are barred from casting a vote for a different person. During this convention, the change effectively would mean a delegate bound to Mitt Romney could not instead opt to throw his or her support behind Ron Paul, who has not freed his delegates.

And now it appears they’re waging an outright war against the voters.

As seen from the halls of power, the problem is that Republican voters think it’s OK to replace incumbent senators and congressman who don’t represent the views of their constituents. In 2012, for example, Republican voters in Indiana dumped longtime Sen. Richard Lugar in a primary battle.

This infuriated establishment Republicans for two reasons. First, because they liked Lugar and the way he worked. Second, because the replacement candidate was flawed and allowed Democrats to win what should have been a safe Republican seat.

So, according to Politico, the Washington team is gearing up a new effort to protect incumbents and limit the ability of Republican voters to successfully challenge establishment candidates.

That makes sense to those whose sole goal is winning a majority in Congress rather than changing the course of government policy. Seen from the outside, though, it sounds like the professional politicians are saying that the only way to win is to pick more candidates like the insiders. Hearing that message, the reaction of many Republican and conservative voters is, “Why bother?”

Interesting and instructive.

They think they are entitled to not just your vote, but to the Congressional seat to which YOU elected them.

They think you, their boss, the person whom they’re supposed to represent, have no right to fire them.

They think they know better than you do what is good for you, and if you disagree, that’s just too bad.

They forgot they’re supposed to represent you.

They believe that even though you elected them through a free and democratic process, you have no right to rectify your mistake the next free and democratic election.

They don’t care about this country.

They don’t care about the people whom they serve.

They care about re-election. They care about their health care benefits for life. They care about wielding power.

They care about themselves. Not you.

So instead of really examining why they are primaried, hated and opposed, the GOP establishment is going to wage war on the very people who trusted them enough to elect them as their government representatives.

Instead of addressing the concerns of the people whom they serve, they will work to make it more difficult for those people to remove them.

Instead of sticking to their principles, they protect those among them who betray those ideals, they protect their corporate cronies, and their allies in Washington.

And when called on the carpet by those who elected them they believe they shouldn’t be held accountable.

OK, GOP. You asked for it. You obviously think that we will vote for you no matter what, because we fear the alternative. You’re in for a rude awakening.

I will actively oppose every establishment candidate who gets on the ballot. I will encourage votes for his or her opposition, and if they win the primary, I will vote for their Democratic opponent, no matter how much of a douchebag he or she happens to be.

And I will actively encourage everyone I know to do the same thing. Primary the incumbent or vote Democrat. You will not see a single word of support from me, and not a single vote will go in your direction.

Hell, I’ll actively promote Democrats in opposition to you, and will encourage every single liberty-loving patriot to do the same thing.

You will not be rewarded with a vote. You push through your establishment cronies, and the Democrats will receive GOP votes.

And when this country goes down in flames under the weight of the Democrat socialist policies, you will have no one but yourselves to blame.

You will learn the meaning of grassroots, or you will go away. Far away.

You have been warned.

Year in Review – 2012 was… interesting

This year is about to end, and I’m not sure what to make of it. I still live in Arlington with Rob, Teeny and the Redhead. We still have two attention-whoring cats. We no longer have a hedgehog, but we do have a large, slobbering, farting dog!

I still love my job. I find it mentally challenging and stimulating. I love this house. I love my kids. I love Rob.  We have established a comfortable routine together. The kids adore Rob and think he’s the coolest thing since ice cream (ice cream they pilfer freely before he can grab some for himself). They have food fights at the table. They chase one another around the house and wrestle. They all make me smile.

I didn’t blog about guns too much in the beginning of the year. There were other things going on – primaries, in particular, occupied my time – mostly because I couldn’t believe the mass amount of stupid in the field of candidates we were forced to tolerate. To be sure, there were some things with which I agreed on all ends of the spectrum, but aside from Gary Johnson, I didn’t see anyone I could even remotely stomach in the White House. Our friend Ken Vaughn had decided to run for Congress, but in the end establishment “moderates” won out, and… well….

In February, we lost one of our own – Maj. Bob Marchanti, with whom I deployed to Kosovo in 2007, was killed in Afghanistan. I was filled with incredible rage for most of that month, and much of my writing reflected this anger that month. I look back on it now, and cringe a bit at how pissed off I was! This was exacerbated by fiscal issues, as I was trying to refinance the house – a most annoying and infuriating experience – and pay the bills, while my darling ex informed me that he was too poor to pay the bills he was required to pay by our divorce agreement, and asked me to take over those payments.

In March, I expended some electrons ridiculing the circus surrounding Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman, in particular, the theatrics of the CBC and Frederica Wilson’s unbelievable choice in hats!

I turned 41 in April. Did you know that? I don’t feel old. I feel great.

In May, Rob and I went on our annual vacation to Las Vegas. We got much needed rest, and Gary Johnson got a much deserved presidential nomination from the Libertarian Party. WIN all around! Rob and I continued to point out why Ken Vaughn is a different candidate – a candidate Virginia’s 11th district should have voted for in the June primaries – but to no avail.

June primaries came and went. Establishment candidates swept on both sides of the political aisle. We had a huge storm that temporarily turned Arlington into a third world shithole and made the Redhead temporarily believe in the Zombie apocalypse.  June was the month I also installed a DONATE button. I hated to do that, but my bills were getting out of control, and my ex not only swindled me out of $7700, but also refused to help pay for his kids’ medical and dental expenses. Ya gotta love that!

July was awesome! In July we adopted Tucker – a big, drooling, slobbering, furry, loveable Teddy Bear of a Saint Bernard. He quickly became part of the family, and we quickly learned to leave the room whenever he passed gas. There was also a shooting in an Aurora, CO movie theater that set the wheels in motion for another assault weapons ban – because (SAY IT WITH ME!) we NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE! We also discovered that the media are assholes for trying their damnest to connect the Aurora slaughter to “right wing” violence and the TEA Party. OK – not really a revelation. More of a confirmation about what we already knew.

August was the month of election coverage, where frothing fundamentalist fruitcake Todd Akin tanked not only his candidacy, but also the candidacy of Richard Mourdock, who is also a social conservative, but not nearly as batshit crazy as Akin, who saw it fit to question the legitimacy of rape victims’ claims, because apparently, according to this renowned medical expert, the body has a way of rejecting babies conceived in situations of “legitimate rape.” Akin refused to go away, much like a bad case of the herp, which made Mourdock’s comments about pregnancy – even one that is a result of rape – being God’s will, sound much crazier than what it actually was.

The stupid came out really strong in September with Hollytwits initiating a campaign for the current president and Republicans wondering why a) they still can’t get anyone other than SOCONS and NEOCONS to get excited about their candidates, and why there were dancing vaginas at their August convention. In the meantime, our Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans got slaughtered in another September 11 terrorist attack that the administration claimed wasn’t really terrorism, but Muslim butthurt over some obscure movie that no one had ever heard of until a bunch of animals killed our Ambassador and the administration decided to blame the movie even though Libyans tagged this as terrorism like hours after it happened. Um.. yeah. Oh, and I did a CNN interview on current politics. That was fun.

October was… meh. The third debate between Obama and Romney was dull. I took a trip to Europe and somehow managed to avoid the Superstorm that pummeled the East Coast in which a tree apparently fell on our house, but managed to cause no damage whatsoever

We had Elections in November where President Obama won another term, and the Republicans were left scratching their heads about what went wrong. The CIA Director’s penis was in the news.  A lot.  And I discovered that no matter what I say or do, I’m a racist, because I don’t support the current administration’s policies. Oh well.

Now it’s December, and the worst, most hideous slaughter in recent history took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School . And as most of us grieved and wept, gun-grabbing assholes exploited the murder of children to push their political agendas.

So get ready for 2013, people! It’s going to be quite the ride!

Happy New Year!

Romney, the GOP, and immigration

Those of you who know me know that I did not support Mitt Romney for President. This was largely because of the cheating that went on at the RNC in Tampa, which is all the more galling considering that Romney had the nomination well in hand; apparently his minions, like the odious Ben Ginsberg, felt the need to punish the grassroots so we have to kiss the ring of the establishment every time out in the future. Despite this, I voted straight GOP all the way down the ticket, and then returned to the Presidential ballot line, which I’d left blank for consideration. I TRIED to force myself to vote for Romney/Ryan… TRIED… but then I remembered how the establishment, “the adults in the room”, meaning K Street and the consulting and punditry class, were in the tank for Romney, Pawlenty, and Huntsman. We were told any other choice was tantamount to Zero’s re-election. We had nothing resembling a fair primary process; it was loaded in favor of the establishment candidates, particularly Romney. I then unhesitatingly filled in the circle next to Johnson/Gray and turned in my ballot. I’ve met Gary Johnson personally, a number of times, and he’s exactly the sort of guy we need more of in politics. I had no illusions he’d be elected (and have some disagreements with him on defense and immigration), but he was the best man for the job and the best candidate on the ballot.

That aside, I’ve found my opinion of Romney, the man, not to say the candidate or the campaign, improving since his defeat. Romney was right on the money with his comments about the “gifts” to minorities, young voters and other special interests and voter blocs that Obama gave out. As Ilana Mercer pointed out far more eloquently than I could hope to, the GOP establishment descended on Mitt immediately, talking of how he was wrong and insensitive, and that we must retreat on immigration, entitlements and a host of other issues and become more “diverse”. This is exactly wrong. We cannot compete with Democrat Claus. Even if we could, that would represent complete ideological surrender. People are mocking the photos of Romney pumping his own gas, but this was the guy we needed to see more of during the last two years.

The Republican party embracing “comprehensive” immigration reform will mean its defeat. The Roveian idea of Hispanics as natual conservatives is a pipedream, as Heather MacDonald, who did an extensive study for the Manhattan Institute on Hispanic voters, points out. To more directly rebut the establishment’s babble about immigration, here’s Mark Kirkorian.

We’re importing third world peasants who will vote for more government largesse and who will further Balkanize America. Build the fence wall, and enforce immigration laws, and encourage self-deportation, and end birthright citizenship. We simply can’t afford another course of action, either ideologically or fiscally. It’s just another example of why the “moderates”, the social conservative and the neocons all need to be driven from control of the Republican party.
